Simply painting what you see isn’t as exciting or as rewarding as abstracting your subject into an image that is uniquely and expressively your own. Whether you’re a beginning painter or an experienced artist, you want to creatively transform reality into a personal, expressive image. This course is designed to help you to make the leap into more imaginative and creative painting. We will start with realistic images and then explore a variety of approaches in color and design to abstract the images.
On the first day of the workshop we will begin with a PowerPoint lecture, followed by a critique of the participant’s recent work, assessing where you are and discussing ways to make your work more abstracted and expressive. Bring 5 original matted paintings or digital images of painting on a flash drive or disk. No painting gear on Friday, please.
